Undergraduate and graduate student research mentorship

  • Hired, trained and supervised 6-8 undergraduate and graduate students as Research Assistants annually (2005-2017) to assist in various research projects resulting in approximately 100 training and employment opportunities for students since 2005.
  • Supported 19 graduate students to complete their thesis or dissertation research since 2010.

International Field Schools

  • Eco-tourism development in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala. Led 12 undergraduates in 1998.
  • Cultural tourism development in Malaysia. Led 12 undergraduates in 2000.

Extension tours

Designed and delivered extension trips for undergraduate and undergraduate students to gain exposure to realities of rural development and sustainability including examples such as;

  • 2005 – 6 students to AB and BC
  • 2006- 8 students to Northern AB and BC
  • 2007 – 8 students in Central BC
  • 2008 – 8 students to Coastal BC with resulting report “Observations on tourism development in the Central BC region”
  • 2009 – 6 students to Northern Vancouver Island
  • 2011 – 12 Graduates to Southern Vancouver Island with resulting report on “Modified Gap Analysis of the Pacific Marine Circle Route”
  • 2012 – 17 students to Southern Gulf Islands
  • 2013 – 24 students to the Sunshine Coast region of BC with resulting report on “Case studies on sustainability in the Sunshine Coast region”
  • 2014 – 24 students to mid-sized cities on Vancouver Island with compilation of innovation snapshots in a report.
